Farnborough to Nice
The Route at a Glance
Nice is the gateway to the Côte d'Azur, and one of the routes we fly most often from London Farnborough Airport. It serves Monaco, which has no airport of its own, as well as Cannes, Antibes, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and the villas and yachts along the coast in both directions.
The flight itself is short and straightforward. What makes the difference is everything around it: choosing between Nice and Cannes-Mandelieu, timing the helicopter to Monaco so it is waiting on the apron, and securing slots and parking during the Grand Prix and the festival weeks, when the whole coast is full.
Flight Brief
- A private jet from London Farnborough to Nice covers around 550 nautical miles and takes between 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours.
- Light and midsize jets suit most Farnborough to Nice flights. Larger groups, or those with a lot of luggage, fly super-midsize or heavy jets.
- Monaco has no airport. Private jets land at Nice Côte d'Azur, and a helicopter reaches the Monaco Heliport in around seven minutes.
- Cannes-Mandelieu Airport is closer to Cannes and takes light and midsize jets. Larger aircraft use Nice.
- Slots and aircraft parking on the Riviera are heavily constrained during the Monaco Grand Prix and the Cannes Film Festival, so flights for those weeks should be booked well ahead.
Aircraft Selection
Which Jets Suit Farnborough to Nice
Every jet class can fly this route nonstop, so the choice comes down to passengers, luggage and cabin. For a couple or a small family, a light jet is quick, efficient and usually the best value. Golf bags, skis or a week's luggage for six tip the balance towards a midsize.

Where You Depart and Arrive
Most clients fly Farnborough to Nice. When the final destination is Cannes or further west, a smaller airport can save the drive, and we will suggest it where the aircraft allows.
London
- London Farnborough. Our home since 1990. Business aviation only, with passport and customs handled in the terminal and no airline queues. Around an hour from central London by road, or fifteen minutes by helicopter from Battersea.
- London Luton. Convenient for north London and Hertfordshire.
- London Biggin Hill. The closest business aviation airport to the City and Canary Wharf.
Côte d'Azur
- Nice Côte d'Azur. The main airport for the Riviera, with a dedicated business aviation terminal. Takes every size of aircraft, and is the departure point for helicopters to Monaco.
- Cannes-Mandelieu. Minutes from Cannes and the western Riviera. Suited to light and midsize jets, with larger aircraft routed into Nice.
- Monaco Heliport. Monaco has no runway, so the heliport at Fontvieille is the arrival point. Around seven minutes from Nice by helicopter.
- Saint-Tropez La Môle. A short, demanding runway open only to small aircraft and specially approved crews. Toulon-Hyères is the usual alternative for larger jets.
Operational Detail
Monaco, the Big Weeks, and Arrival
For Monaco, the helicopter is the transfer. The road from Nice takes 30 to 45 minutes at a good time of day and considerably longer in season, while the helicopter takes about seven. We arrange the flight as part of the same booking, so it is on the apron when the jet arrives and your luggage moves across without you handling it.
The Riviera's calendar also shapes how the route is flown. Nice has limited aircraft parking, and during the busiest weeks some jets drop their passengers and reposition elsewhere until the return. We plan for that from the start rather than finding out at the last minute.
- Monaco Grand Prix. Late May. Arrival and departure slots at Nice, and helicopter slots into Monaco, sell out first. Book as early as the dates are known.
- Cannes Film Festival and Cannes Lions. May and June. Cannes-Mandelieu fills quickly, and Nice takes the overflow.
- Summer season. July and August bring the most traffic, and the most empty legs back to London as aircraft reposition home.
- Border control. France is in the Schengen Area, so UK passengers pass through passport control on arrival, including a one-time biometric registration under the EU Entry/Exit System. ETIAS, the EU's pre-travel authorisation, is due to start in the final quarter of 2026, and we confirm what applies when you book.
- Coming home. A General Aviation Report is filed with UK Border Force before the return flight into Farnborough.
Cost Guide
What Farnborough to Nice Costs
The price is for the whole aircraft, not per seat. The figures below are guide ranges for a one-way flight. Every quote we send shows the total cost of the trip, including fees, any positioning and the helicopter transfer where you need one.
Returns and empty legs. On a short trip, it is usually cheaper for the aircraft to wait at Nice than to fly home and come back, so a same-week return costs well under twice the one-way. Aircraft repositioning to London after dropping clients on the Riviera also create empty legs through the summer, sometimes at a fraction of the full price. We tell you when one matches your dates.
Why Starflight Aviation
Jet and Helicopter, One Booking
Most Riviera journeys are two flights, not one. We have arranged both since 1990, starting with the 250 helicopter movements we coordinated at Knebworth in our first year, so the jet into Nice and the helicopter into Monaco are planned together and timed to each other.
We are based at London Farnborough, so we know the departure end as well as the arrival. When the Grand Prix or the festival fills the coast, that familiarity is what finds the slot, the parking and the helicopter.
Based at London Farnborough Airport since 1990. The departure end of this route is where we work every day.
Both legs arranged and timed together, so the helicopter to Monaco is waiting when the jet lands at Nice.
Every jet and helicopter operator is independently verified against recognised safety standards before the flight is confirmed.
Plans change on the Riviera, especially in May. Someone always answers, including the night before the race.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about chartering a private jet between London and Nice.
How much does a private jet from Farnborough to Nice cost?
As a guide, a one-way flight typically costs £9,000 to £13,000 in a light jet, £13,000 to £18,000 in a midsize jet, and £18,000 to £25,000 in a super-midsize jet. The price is for the whole aircraft, not per seat. The season, where the aircraft is positioned from, and demand around the Monaco Grand Prix and the Cannes festivals all move the figure. Every quote we send shows the total cost of the trip.
How long is a private flight from London to Nice?
Between 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours from London Farnborough to Nice, depending on the aircraft and the wind. The return from Nice to Farnborough is similar, often a few minutes longer against the prevailing westerly wind. With no check-in queues at Farnborough or the Nice business aviation terminal, door-to-door time is a fraction of an airline journey.
Can I fly a private jet directly to Monaco?
Not by jet. Monaco has no airport, so private jets land at Nice Côte d'Azur, around 20 kilometres away. From there a helicopter reaches the Monaco Heliport at Fontvieille in about seven minutes. We arrange the jet and the helicopter as a single booking, timed so the helicopter is waiting when you land.
How do I get from Nice Airport to Monaco?
By helicopter in around seven minutes, or by car in 30 to 45 minutes when traffic is light and considerably longer in summer or during the Grand Prix. Most private jet clients take the helicopter, which leaves from Nice Airport itself, so there is no separate transfer to arrange. We can book either.
Should I fly into Nice or Cannes-Mandelieu?
It depends on where you are going and the size of the aircraft. Cannes-Mandelieu is closer to Cannes and the western Riviera and suits light and midsize jets. Nice takes every size of aircraft, is closer to Monaco and the eastern Riviera, and is the departure point for helicopters to Monaco. We recommend whichever puts you nearest your destination with the aircraft you need.
Can a private jet land at Saint-Tropez?
Only small aircraft with specially approved crews can use Saint-Tropez La Môle, which has a short and demanding runway. Most clients heading to Saint-Tropez fly into Toulon-Hyères, Cannes-Mandelieu or Nice, then complete the journey by helicopter or car. A helicopter from Nice to Saint-Tropez takes around 25 minutes.
How early should I book for the Monaco Grand Prix or Cannes Film Festival?
As early as your dates are known, ideally several months ahead. During the Grand Prix and the Cannes Film Festival, arrival slots and aircraft parking at Nice and Cannes-Mandelieu fill up, and helicopter slots into Monaco are limited. Some aircraft have to drop passengers and reposition elsewhere until the return. Booking early secures the aircraft, the slot and the helicopter together.
Do I go through passport control flying privately to France?
Yes. France is in the Schengen Area and the UK is not, so passengers clear border control on arrival, usually in the business aviation terminal rather than the main airport. UK and other non-EU travellers register once under the EU Entry/Exit System, which records fingerprints and a photograph. ETIAS, the EU's pre-travel authorisation, is due to start in the final quarter of 2026, and we confirm what applies to your trip when you book.
Are there empty legs between Nice and London?
Often, especially in summer. Aircraft that drop clients on the Riviera frequently fly back to London empty, and those legs can be booked at a fraction of the normal price. The trade-off is flexibility, because the aircraft's schedule sets the timing. Tell us your dates and we will let you know when a suitable empty leg comes up.
Can a private flight to Nice be carbon offset?
Yes. Every flight we arrange, including the helicopter transfer, can be offset through our Carbon Responsible Programme, which combines Cool Earth rainforest protection, supported since 2009, with flight-specific verified offsets through 4AIR. Corporate clients receive the figures for each individual flight for ESG reporting.
